BBC Bitesize Careers Visit
Students from Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 were visited by BBC Bitesize’s Schools Tour and had a fantastic time learning about a variety of different career paths and how to best access them.
BBC Bitesize’s Schools Tour aim is to visit 125,000+ secondary school students across the UK. The event was led by Steve Forbes, an experienced BBC presenter, who spoke to three local professionals in a talk show panel style setup. Each professional lives and works in the North East and they all discussed their career path. They covered a variety of topics, such as relevant qualifications, personal anecdotes, advice on work experience and key soft skills for the workplace.
The panel discussed careers in a variety of sectors to hopefully help inspire our young minds about opportunities that exist on their doorstep. Students also had an opportunity to ask questions during the interactive part of the event and enjoyed catching and speaking into the BBC rugby ball microphone!
The aim of the Bitesize Schools Tour is to raise awareness of career aspirations to secondary pupils across the UK and give them practical advice on how they can pursue a career in a variety of settings. This certainly seemed to be exactly what our pupils received as they remained exceptionally engaged throughout the panel discussion and were amazed at the variety of careers that are available to them. Pupils have also commented that it was interesting and inspiring to see local people work in industries that they didn’t know existed!
Thank you and well done to Miss Garrett who organised the event and made sure it ran as smoothly as it did!
